Q: Do you take beginners?

Yes. Coaches will work to help all divers develop their skills to make them competition ready!

Q: Can my child be on both the swim and dive teams?

Yes. More than half our divers are also on Swim Team.

Q: What is the Cracker Jack Meet?

Cracker Jack is one of the largest developmental meets in the country. It is meant for beginning and intermediate divers who usually don't score in A Dive meets. Everyone competes only against other divers of the same age and gender, e.g. 7-year-old girls.

Q: How do I sign my child up for a meet?

We are using Team Unify (this site) to see diver availability and parent volunteers. Click on an event and indicate your divers' availability and/or volunteer options.

Q: What is the difference between A & B Meets?

A Meets are generally held on Tuesday evening and are the meets that count towards our NVSL league standing points. B Meets are held on Thursday evenings, and are not scored for NVSL points. However, ribbons are awarded in both meets and all times are recorded for our team information.

A Meet rules limit the number of entrants to 32 per team; Coaches determine if a diver qualifies to participate in a meet. The top 3 divers in each age group are scored to determine the winning team.

In B Meets, everyone has the opportunity to dive -- there is no limitation on the number of divers each team may enter in a given event. Divers are allowed “do-overs”. Coach assisted dives are also allowed and scored.

Q: How do coaches determine if a diver qualifies for an A Meet?

A diver must be able to perform, unassisted, the required dives for the divers age group. Coaches assess a divers ability to perform those dives during practices.

Q: How is a meet organized?

We follow the NVSL (Northern Virginia Swim League) Dive Meet rules.

  • Freshman (ages 10 & under) are required to do three dives: front dive, back dive + 1 optional
  • Juniors (ages 11 & 12) are required to do four dives: front dive, back dive + 2 optional
  • Intermediates (ages 13 & 14) are required to do five dives: front dive, back dive + 3 optional
  • Seniors (ages 15 & up) are required to do six dives: front dive, back dive, inward dive + 3 optional

Q: What is the Wally Martin Meet?

Wally Martin is a Three Meter Meet (TMM) that cultivates and invites divers across all age group levels to develop skills to participate in diving from a three (3) meter board. It is by invitation only at the discretion of the Team Dive Meet Manager and/or Head Coach.

Seperate practices are scheduled at facilities with a three (3) meter board a few days prior to the event. There is a $5 entry fee for participants in this meet. Specific details relevant to the current season will be shared prior to the event.

Divers in the Wally Martin must dive in their own age group (i.e., are not allowed to dive up).

Q: How can I get group/private lessons?

Please check the board in the pool entryway for coaches who are offering lessons this season.

Q: Are there other meet opportunities?

All events for the season are posted in Team Unify. Additional events, such as B Dive meets, will be published and communicated out as far in advance as possible.
